Gevecht!!

Dit jaar hebben we voor de eerste keer een ijswijn en een pinotage gemaakt. De ijswijn is helemaal nieuw in Zuid Afrika en onze Pinotage, in de cru beaujolais stijl, bestaat nauwlijks in ZA. Dat levert zo zijn problemen op. Om op het etiket bijvoorbeeld Pinotage te mogen vermelden proeft een technisch commissie of de voorgelegde wijn wel voldoet. Zowel de ijswijn als de Pinotage werden bij de eerste tasting afgekeurd. Veel gebeld en gemaild en op basis hiervan mochten we ze opnieuw voorleggen. Onze ijswijn is nu wel goedgekeurd, we mogen het "Chenin Blanc Iced" noemen, maar de Pinotage nog steeds niet. Bijgaand een stukje uit onze mail wisseling om het toch een Pinotage te mogen noemen: 

"Our Pinotage is rejected by the technical committee because of insufficient cultivar characteristics.

We would like to challenge this decision.

It’s our goal to make a different style of Pinotage. A style more resembling a Cru Beaujolais from France. As far as we know this has not been done (often) before in South Africa. So it it’s quite logical that our Pinotage has different characteristics. But this doesn’t mean insufficient. We are of the opinion that after only 20 years of experimenting with Pinotage in South Africa all characteristics of Pinotage are not yet known. Next to this it could be also the case that it will show more like a (“sufficient”) Pinotage when it gets older. It’s the 2013 vintage."

Waar je je als wijnboer allemaal mee moet bezig houden!!! Wordt vervolgd. Volgende week wordt hij weer (voor de derde keer) geproefd door een nog  meer senior gezelschap. We zullen zien......
